Blossoms at the Yamazaki River

There’s an issue with taking photos of cherry blossoms. Upon arriving in Japan, my first thought was “I must find the most beautiful spot with the largest amount of cherry blossom trees and begin taking photos immediately, they’ll be so gorgeous and everyone back home will be so jealous”. In reality, you end up with 90 photos that look exactly like something any old person with an iPhone from the last 5 years could take with their eyes closed. So… what was my favourite photo from my evening wandering the banks of the Yamazaki River?

Probably this one:

I can only imagine how this woman’s photo turned out but I have her and her obliging partner to thank for providing me with my most entertaining image of the evening.

A more standard shot with a fairly satisfying composition that I took right before heading home:

I would have much prefered it if the building in the background was slightly taller and more interesting looking and if there wasn’t a building on the right jutting out from behind the blossoms but overall, with the reflections and the gentle curvature of the river I do actually think this is quite a nicely balanced shot.

It’s worth mentioning that for these two images, and probably the vast majority that will appear on here going forward, I am editing using NX Studio and a 15 inch gaming laptop from 2020 so colour and contrast are likely going to look pretty off if viewed on a more accurate display. If I end up getting a better editing setup whilst here I might go back and touch up these shots but probably not and honestly, it will serve as a nice visual reminder of my progress leaving them in their original states.

Now playing:
Rubber Ring – The Smiths
The passing of time
And all of its sickening crimes
Are making me sad again
